FORMULATION:
Each vial contains ceftriaxone( as sodium) 1g
DOSAGE ADMINISTRATION:
It is administered as the sodium salt by intermittent intravenous infusion over 30 minutes or by deep intramuscular injection. Dosses are expressed interms of the equlvalent amount of ceftriaxone. It is give to adults in a dose of 1.2g daily as single doser in two divided doses; In severe infections up to a daily may be give. Children may be given 50 to 75 mg per kg body-weight daily in two divided doses; the total daily dose should not exceed 2g. For the treatment in meningitis in children, ceftriaxone may be given in a dose of 100mg per kg daily in two divided doses, sometimes with a loading dose of 75mg per kg the total daily dose should not exceed 4g.
For surgical intramuscular dose of 250 g is recommended for the treatment of gonorrhea in adults.
Before taking this medicine
You should not take ceftriaxone if you are allergic to cefazolin or any other cephalosporin antibiotic (cefdinir, cefalexin, Keflex, Omnicef, and others).
Do not use ceftriaxone in a child without a doctor's advice, and never give more than the child's prescribed dose. Ceftriaxone injection could be dangerous when given to a newborn baby with any intravenous medicines that contain calcium, including total parental nutrition (TPN).
